Stage 2 of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Türkiye was another one for the sprinters, with only 1 categorized climb on the menu. That didn’t, however, deter our 58kg, Nico Sessler, from joining an 8 strong breakaway of 85kg average riders on a day where the wind wreaked havoc.
Spending the best part of 120km riding into a brutal headwind did eventually take its toll, with the breakaway being caught after the final KOM. As predicted, it was another fast and frantic finish, where Miguel Angel Fernandez was able to safely surf the World Tour leadout trains to cross the line 8th for the second day running.
Sessler said “I had the best shelter all day. Not so much the guys behind, who were taking it in turns not to sit on my wheel! It was a hard fight to be there but we knew we had to be to show the colours and play the card of having a guy upfront to help Miguel with the sprint. Another good day in Turkey! 6 more to go.”
