Dylan Sunderland climbs to 21st on Tour of Slovenia Queen Stage

The Queen Stage of the 2022 Tour of Slovenia saw the riders take on 152.4km stage from Laško to the summit finish on Velika Planina, taking on 3 other categorised climbs along the way.

Nine riders managed to get up the road but sadly none of our guys made it to them. But this changed the focus of the day and everyone rallied behind Dylan Sunderland.

Dylan rode well and was in the perfect position on the penultimate climb when the WorldTour teams started to accelerate. Dylan made it into a select group of around 30 riders as the breakaway was swallowed up heading onto the final climb. Dylan stayed calm and went at his own pace taking a very strong 21st place on the day just 1’36” behind stage winner Majka (UAE Team Emirates).

Dylan Sunderland – “Today it was nice to feel some good sensations coming back after spending the past weeks suffering from illness. An acceleration on the second to last climb formed a smaller group for the final climb. I approached the finish climb with no stress and stayed at my own tempo.”

Director Sportif, Florent Horeau – “It was another very hard race, we didn’t manage to make it into the breakaway but Dylan managed to get a great result to just be outside the top 20 on the stage. Tomorrow is the final stage and is a big opportunity for our guys to maybe get something, so we go all in for that.”
