Dylan Sunderland takes 10th in Sibiu Tour stage 3A time trial and Nico Sessler joins the break on stage 3B

Dylan Sunderland took an impressive 10th place in the individual time trial in stage 3A today at the Sibiu Tour, holding off some very talented names in the process, proving his quality and Nico Sessler had his 2nd trip in the breakaway on stage 3B.

The final day at the Sibiu Tour 2022 came to a close with two stages. Stage 3A being an ITT from Curmatura Stezii to Arena Platos Paltinis over 12.5km with stage 3B being a rolling 99km stage starting and finishing in the centre of Sibiu at the beautiful Piața Mare.

Dylan looked extremely solid all the way up the climb, making it look almost easy as he caught and dropped his minute man, followed by his two minute man. He held 2nd place for a while behind Romo (Astana) by 39″ but then came the big guns in the GC fight and Aleotti (Bora) all but secured his overall win with victory.

Stage 3B was a rather different affair. The riders headed back to the climb used in the morning but only around 3km of it before turning off and joining a very tight and twisty road that caused a lot of nerves. Nico put in a great ride to make it into the break but he was feeling the effort of stage 1 in the legs and wasn’t able to hold the pace on the final climb. Unfortunately for Nico, the break was successful with Gandin (Corratec) taking the win.

Nico Sessler – “It was really nice to be back in the breakaway for the 2nd time at this race but I was still hurting from the first road stage efforts and suffered because of it. I was very disappointed and frustrated to miss out on challenging for the stage victory but that is cycling. If you don’t have the legs it will not be.”

Sport Director, Florent Horeau – “Today started well with a very strong display from Dylan to take 10th ahead of some talented riders. This really gave the team a nice boost going into the stage in the evening and it was good to see Nico in the break again but it was a shame that he exploded on the final climb. All in all we leave Sibiu Tour with our heads held high after a solid performance.”
