Miguel Angel Fernandez takes 3rd on Stage 3 at the Presidential Cycling Tour of Türkiye, after another fast and frantic stage.
Despite beginning with a category 4 climb, today was another day for the sprinters, and the team put all their efforts into delivering Miguel to the line in a strong position, rather than fight for the breakaway. And their hard work paid off.
Following the Alpecin Fenix train for the last 2km and glued to the wheel of Jasper Philipsen, Miguel timed his sprint to perfection to take the team’s first Pro podium.
Miguel Angel Fernandez – “It was a fast race, but quite calm for me in the peloton with the support of my teammates. In the last few kilometres the team helped to place me behind the big sprint teams as the lead-outs started. It was a fast sprint and I am very happy with the third place, but I still believe I can win here. I want to thank the whole team, as this result belongs to them too.”
Director Sportif, Florent Horeau – “I’m very happy with the team performance, and with Miguel’s increasing confidence. He’s continued to improve day by day and the week is far from over. We’re very ambitious for the rest of the race, and so is he. Tomorrow is a big day for the climbers, so we will have different cards to play.”
